Ashok Chavan's resignation accepted
Tainted Maharashtra chief minister, Ashok Chavan has officially resigned from the post of the CM and his resignation has been accepted by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
In fact he was supposed to resign few days back, but was postponed due to the visit of Obama to Mumbai.
Ashok Chavan is facing corruption charges as it was found out that his close relatives got many flats in the Adarsh Nagar housing society which were meant for the widows and armymen injured in the Kargil war.
After the scam came to light, a committee with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister AK Antony was formed and this committee reported to Sonia that Ashok Chavan was indeed involved in the wrongdoings.
On the other hand, Suresh Kalmadi, who was involved in the massive corruption during the CWG games, has also resigned from the post of the 'Congress Parliamentary Party secretary'.
